We just got back from our first puppy obedience class at the local PetCo. They do the class right inside the store, in the blessed blessed air conditioning, so that was a Very Good Thing.
Sequoia did so good!
She could already sit, and she learned "look" really easy. When we got to the part where the instructor asked if all the puppies knew their names, I was all cocky. So she went around (there were 6 of us) and asked us each to get our dog's attention by saying their name. Of course Sequoia completely ignored me....
But it was a lot of fun. No negative reinforcement at all, just lots of positive reinforcement and pets and loves and teeny tiny little pieces of lunchmeat. I'm glad I got us signed up for this. I think it'll be good for Sequoia, and I could use a little refresher too, after all these years of having perfect adult dogs. :-)
Sequoia is sleeping now. All that interacting wore her right out. lol.

Sounds to me like Sequoia is showing you just who Really is the boss! She sounds just wonderful, I want to see her one of these days!

My pets have always known who runs the joint.....
I'm trying to be better with Sequoia, tho. No begging for people food, no people food treats, getting crated at times for no particular reason, and "working" for rewards. For instance, I always make her sit for me before I give her her food bowl. I have to alpha roll her every day. She's getting much better at calming down very quickly, tho.
I think eventually, hopefully before I tear all my hair out, I'm gonna have a Really Good Dog to live with. :-)
